Andalucía is free from Xylella fastidiosa
The regional government of Andalucía has declared that the region is free from the bacterium after 6,000 negative samples.
On the other hand, according to a recent EC report, the measures applied in the Balearic Islands don’t guarantee its eradication. Taking into account that the disease is widespread throughout the three islands, that it affects a wide range of plant species and that there are different subspecies of the pathogen in the infected areas, its eradication will be very difficult to achieve.
The EC experts also noted that the origin of the infection is still unknown.
