The Mediterranean diet, increasingly expensive
According to the annual study of the consumers’ organization OCU about the shopping basket, to follow the Mediterranean diet is becoming more and more expensive. Fruit and vegetables, along with fish, are the food group that has experienced the greatest price increases in the last year.
The average price increase in fresh produce was 2.6%, although some of them, such as kiwi fruit, tomatoes and cuttlefish, increased by up to 20%.
This increase accumulated to that of previous year, with an average increase of fresh products price of 6%. By products, lemons, salmon and oil had the bigger increase, from 20 to 50%.
On the contrary, the prices of packaged food continue their downward trend.
