PROAPPLE 2019 Trade Show and Conference for apple growers and horticultural industry in Russia
On November 26-29 «PROAPPLE 2019», a Trade Show and Conference, will take place in Mineralnye Vody city of Stavropol Region in Russia. The event will be organized by the Fruit News Information Agency, Association of the Horticulture and Nurseries of Stavropol Region and International School of Horticulture. Over 200 apple growers and nurseries from Russia, the Netherlands, Italy and other countries will take part in this first in Russia specialized trade show and conference for Russian apple growers.
Apple market and challenges
In 2018 the Russian apple growers have gathered the record crop, which exceeded 1 million metric tons. Apple harvests in Russia kept constant growth since 2011. In 2018 in comparison with the previous year the local apple crop increased by 42%. At the same time only about 60% of all apples harvested in Russia can be sold in retail due to the quality issues. Thus imported fruit still make the majority of the market. 792 thousand MT of apples were imported to Russia in the season of 2018-2019. Large size of the local market and high demand for apples, active launching of the intensive horticultural technologies and state support of the industry are the major factors driving the Russian horticulture development. At the same time Russian apple growers face a number of problems, such as low availability of the quality planting material and pesticides, lack of cooperation within and outside of the industry, difficulties in development of the distribution chains, lack of financial resources, technical knowledge, qualified specialists and seasonal workers.
