More than 580 renewable energy projects in Romania

Recently, the Agency for the Financing of Rural Investments (AFIR) published on its official website the results of the selection of investment projects submitted in the first session for the support Scheme for investments in new production capacities for electricity from renewable sources, for self-consumption by enterprises in the agricultural and food industry sector.

The funding for this energy scheme is provided from the Modernization Fund, managed by the Ministry of Energy, the administrator of the support scheme being the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, through AFIR.

According to the final selection report, the agency will grant €110.4 million in non-reimbursable funds to 581 investment projects selected for funding. Out of the 581 projects, 564 projects concern investments in solar renewable energy with a capacity of less than 1 megawatt (MW) and for which AFIR will grant €90.2 million. Another 17 projects will receive funding of €20.2 million for investments in solar renewable energy with a capacity of more than 1 megawatt (MW). No projects eligible for funding were received for investments in wind energy

During the open session which took place from November 20, 2023 to February 15, 2024, AFIR received 1,346 online applications for funding worth more than €251 million. The budget set by the energy scheme for the first session was €150 million, divided according to the capacities installed at company level.

Also last month, AFIR published on Aafir.ro a new consultative version of the Applicant's Guide for this support scheme, which indicates that a new call for projects is imminent.

Eligible beneficiaries under the Energy Scheme can be enterprises in the agricultural sector, enterprises in the food industry sector, legally constituted and registered with the National Trade Register Office (ONRC), as well as Organizations/ federations of organizations for irrigation water use (OUAI/ FOUAI – water users associations and their federations), constituted according to the law.

Through this support scheme, projects will receive funding for the realization of new electricity generation capacities with or without storage, from solar sources and from wind sources, for projects either under 1 MW (inclusive) or over 1 MW.
