Romania’s drinking milk market grew in 2020
Romanians spent RON1.85 billion (EUR0.4 billion) on drinking milk-type products, in 2020, with the market growing on average 21.6%, in line with data provided by market research company Euromonitor.
All five segments of the market saw increases, but the growth pace varied widely, from 2.6% for powder milk to 62.2% for other types of alternative milk.
Milk and dairy alternative products have boomed in recent years as the number of people giving up animal products is soaring in Romania and worldwide. However, this type of drinks still holds a small weight in the overall market.
Simple milk still dominates, with a 90% market share, seeing strong growth, in line with the market pace.
Overall, drinking milk sales surged in 2020, the first pandemic year, maintaining the previous upward trend.
