Romania: Number of Microbreweries Up from Zero To 59 In Ten Years
Oriel Beer, Bereta, Capra Noastra, Bere Grivita, Perfektum, Bere a la Cluj, Anagram are among the newest craft beer brands in Romania, on a segment that went from zero to 59 microbreweries in 2010-2019.
Multinationals – Ursus Breweries, Heineken Romania, Bergenbier, URBB (Tuborg), Romanian-held Romaqua and European Drinks and medium-sized brewers like Bermas Suceava and Martens Galati were making beer in 2010, when Romania had no microbrewery. Ten years later, there were 59 microbreweries in the country at the end of 2019, even though their volumes are low.
“The trend of the number of microbreweries follows the European trend,” the representatives of Brewers of Romania Association say.
Microbreweries in Romania are those breweries which pay a lower excise duty. Brewers with up to 200,000 hectoliters production per year pay 50% lower excise duty.
