Romania Eligible For Advance Payment Of EU Agriculture Grants
Romania is among the eligible countries for upcoming measure prepared by the European Commission, which intends to make bigger advance payments of its agricultural grants due for October.
According to the Commission, farmers will receive between 70 and 85% of approved grants in October, instead of the 50% installment announced initially, with the rest of the sum to be paid in December.
The institution intends for the measures to help European farmers who were affected by drought this summer, specifically to help purchases of food for the animal husbandry sector.
“The European Commission presented an additional grants package, which is meant to increase the availability of fodder resources for animals, one of the main hardships farmers affected by the drought are facing,” the Commission announced in a statement issued Friday.
The Commission also added that the payments will be assigned proportionally and could even rise to 90% of the full sum in areas facing natural restraints. The proposals will be discussed in a meeting of EU member states within the next few days, and if they are voted they will be officially passed by the end of September.
Romanian Agriculture Minister Petre Daea announced that Romanian farmers will receive 70% of the grant in October, stating that Romania was the only member state to finish the grant application process on the May 15 deadline.
