Romanian milk production grows, imports rise faster
The Romanian milk producers turn around for the second time, the pessimistic perspective of 2015 when milk imports increased with 28,8% due to the drop of internal production, by delivering with 4,7% more milk in the first six months of this year, compared to the same period in 2016, while the imports have grown with 7%, according to the data published by the National Institute of Statistics on Wednesday.
The Romanian producers delivered 102.440 tons of milk in June, with 13.7% more than in June 2016. The imports reached 6.348 tons, lower with 4.2% compared to June 2016.
The milk production reached 520.307 tones in the first six months, with 4.7% more than in the first six months of 2016. Imports have increased with 7%, up to 67.058 tons.
Production increase in the first six months of 2017, compared to the same period in 2016 have been noted for: butter with 633 tons (+11,5%), acidified milk (yogurt, drinking yogurt, buttermilk and other similar dairy products) with 5925 tons (+6%) and milk for consumption with 5053 tons (+3,6%).
The production of sour cream for consumption decreased with 2617 tons (-7,6%) and cheese with 639 tons (-1,3%).
Last year the Romanian milk producers delivered 953.405 tons of milk, with 3,7% more compared to the previous year, after a 8,1% decrease in 2015, while imports have increased with 24,7%, to 126.151 tons, the equivalent of 13,2% of the internal production.
