Poland: PIB Soil Improvement in action
In November 2022, the 3-year PIB project on improvement of soil quality in Poland was signed. The project consists of a consortium of Dutch companies who are, with support of the Dutch government, working together in Poland. Part of the project is the joined participation in exhibitions, as well as a visit to the Netherlands of relevant Polish stakeholders.
Agroshow Bednary 22-24 September 2023
One of the largest agricultural fairs in Poland, the Bednary Agro Show, is now behind us. This year the fair was visited by more than 90,000 visitors who could meet almost 700 exhibitors, including the NL Pavilion where group of companies that are part of the PIB Soil Improvement presented their technologies and machinery.
Presented at the fair were, among others, an RGB hyperspectral camera, a cultivation machine - a grader for fields, as well as wood chipping cultivation machines for forest and agricultural areas, an agricultural weather station and a profile soil moisture sensor, or a RH3S mobile soil sensor with a variable dose application system or membranes for biogas storage.
This is the second event this year in Poland at which PIB Soil Improvement representatives are currently present. Previously, the group presented at the oldest agricultural fair in this part of Europe - Polagra Premiery.
The PIB Soil Improvement Poland group consists of Agriwatch, BOS, Farmax, Flexxolutions, Homburg, Rinagro, RMA, RH3S supported by the World Trade Center.
Visit to the Netherlands 3-6 September 2023
In early September, a Polish delegation consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, The National Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation, Agricultural Advisory Center or Farm Frites Poland, among others, visited the Netherlands.
During meetings with Dutch farmers and representatives of agribusinesses, the Polish delegation was able to learn about how to ensure the availability of integrated analysis and locally tailored recommendations, such as using remote sensing techniques or geographic information systems.
Topics such as the use of innovative techniques to improve plant rooting, which allows the soil to absorb and retain water more efficiently, which is essential, especially during periods of extreme drought, were also discussed. Proper crop planning and rotation, as well as the use of the right combination of seeds and crops, activation of soil microbial life and optimization of agrotechnical treatments also help maintain high soil quality.
