New HPAI outbreak in the north of Poland
Based on the results of tests obtained from the National Reference Laboratory for avian influenza on 8 February 2020, a new outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N8 in poultry was designated in the territory of the Republic of Poland.
Outbreak No. 2020/18 was designated on a farm where 17.060 turkeys for fattening were kept, located in the town of Zybułtowo, in the commune of Grunwald, in the district of Ostróda, in the Warminsko-Mazurskie province.
Polish veterinary services have implemented all disease control procedures provided for the occurrence of highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry, in accordance with the binding legislation. They also reminded all poultry farmers of the need to exercise extreme caution and adhere to the principles of biosecurity when handling poultry, minimizing the risk of transmitting avian influenza virus to the farm.
