We particularly invite companies specialized in, but the invitation is not limited to:   Collection at open sea and logistics: It is essential to scale cutting-edge technologies that can capture sargassum before it reaches the beaches. Valorization: We seek companies that can transform this biomass into high-value products such as biofuels, fertilizers, or construction materials. Monitoring and prediction: Advanced monitoring and prediction systems are needed to anticipate sargassum movements and take preventive measures more effectively.

Mexico is a large, culturally and environmentally diverse country. As climate change is affecting hydrological cycles, the country is facing more and more challenges regarding water quantity and quality. Wendele van der Wiele, Agricultural Counselor for Mexico and Cuba and working at the Dutch Embassy in Mexico, shares Dutch knowledge and know-how on sustainable water management and the water-biodiversity-food nexus. Van der Wiele also points out where the Netherlands can learn from Mexico when it comes to biodiversity and food production.

Mexico’s diverse ecosystems are under growing pressure from deforestation, unsustainable agricultural practices, climate change, and a rapidly expanding population. The Netherlands Agricultural Network (LAN) team at the Dutch Embassy in Mexico City has taken this challenge head-on by developing a comprehensive biodiversity strategy with the support of the Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN). This article explores the team’s key priorities for safeguarding Mexico’s biodiversity and highlights a significant project focused on reviving sustainable, pre-Hispanic farming methods in the chinampas of Xochimilco—a practice dating back to the Aztec civilization.
