Kenya and the Netherlands strengthen ties during visit of Minister Liesje Schreinemacher
Kenya is an important trade partner of the Netherlands. “When we cooperate in the region, aid and trade go hand in hand. We support Dutch companies in doing business here, which also contributes to the prospects for the local population” said Minister Liesje Schreinemacher for International Trade and Development Cooperation.
The visit focused on the various areas of cooperation between Kenya and the Netherlands, such as agriculture, logistics, health, innovation, circular economy and trade. Minister Schreinemacher spoke with the Kenyan Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Rachael Omamo about the broader Dutch-Kenyan relationship and the upcoming elections in Kenya. They also talked about the situation in the East Africa region and developments in neighbouring countries.
She then had a good meeting with Minister of Transport H.E. Macharia, during which they signed a Letter of Intent on the shared ambition to improve the connection of ports through a 'Cool Logistics Corridor'. This enables short-life products, such as flowers and vegetables, to be transported by ship in special refrigerated containers to extend their shelf-life. Together with the Kenyan Ministry of Trade, P.S. Amb. Johnson Weru, Minister Schreinemacher also discussed how we can further strengthen our trade relationship through logistics cooperation in the port of Mombasa. Minister @LSchreinemacher visited various companies to see how Kenya and the Netherlands work together. One of the companies she visited was Insectipro, to hear more about circular solutions to provide animal feed.

New policy Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation
In the coming weeks Minister Schreinemacher will be working on a new policy for International Trade and Development Cooperation. The ministry is inviting everyone who is active in this area to share their ideas. Interested parties are welcomed to share their ideas and knowledge before the 15th of April.
