PigVision Seminar held in Tokyo
On 23 October, the "PigVision" seminar about the improvement of livestock management was held at the Netherlands Embassy in Tokyo. PigVision is the latest herd recording and management software for pig farmers developed by AgroVision B.V. The software allows the easy entry of all registrations into mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets, thereby helping farmers to achieve cost savings and improve efficiency.
The seminar was organised by Frontier International Co., Ltd., in close cooperation with AgroVision B.V. and the Netherlands Embassy in Tokyo. It was attended by approx. 30 professionals, including representatives of leading pig farmers in Japan. Mr. Pieter Brons of AgroVision B.V., participated in the event as key-note speaker.
In Japan, the number of pig farms steadily declined from 7,230 in 2008 to 4,470 in 2018 while the average number of pigs per farm increased from 1,348 to 2,055 during the same period. The last few years the sector faces a range of challenges, such as an aging and shrinking farming population and increased international competition. ICT is considered as a promising solution to these challenges.
