Market Study: Large-scale Greenhouse Horticulture in Japan (Jan 2025)

In the face of extensive urbanization and a rapidly ageing population Japan is looking to innovation and technology to solve challenges to its food supplies and to the population’s health and well-being. To revitalise the agriculture and horticulture sector and transform it into a modern, sustainable, resilient and export-oriented sector, the Japanese government is encouraging the development and application of sustainable and labour-saving solutions in areas such as robotics, AI and digitalisation. In addition, regulatory changes have also recently been made by the Japanese government, making it possible for outsiders to invest in the agriculture and horticulture sector and to promote land consolidation.
