East West Seed Indonesia - New Research and Development Center
East West Seed Indonesia (EWINDO) inaugurated a 4,500m2 research and development (R&D) center at its office in Purwakarta, West Java. The facility, which was built using the concepts of post pandemic working space and accessible spot for all stakeholders, has made Ewindo the first vegetable seed company in Indonesia with the largest and most comprehensive R&D area.
The inauguration of the research and development (R&D) center was attended by the Director General of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture, Dr Ir Prihasto Setyanto MSc and Pudji Lestari as Head of National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) and representative from the Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta, Joost van Uum, Agriculture Counselor and agriculture team.
Previously, EWINDO has had an R&D area of around 2,000 square meters with various facilities including a molecular biology laboratory, a cell biology laboratory, a plant disease laboratory, and offices. With the operation of the new facility, each of these laboratories will grow in size. In addition, a number of new laboratories will be built, namely the Nutrition lab, Agronomy lab and Consumer lab, integrated offices, collaboration space and co-working space/open air space. This modern and integrated R&D facility is expected to accelerate the production of high-quality seeds and position EWINDO as a 'center of excellence' for vegetable seeds in Indonesia.
On the same occasion, EWINDO also held the Cap Panah Merah Farm National Event which was attended by around 500 farmers from all over Indonesia. The annual activity that will be held from 11-16 July 2023 is titled 'National Food Heroes with the Right to Prosperous Harvest', which means that farmers have the right to feel safe when planting seeds so that they get optimal results to support their prosperity.
In this event, EWINDO also introduced a number of superior varieties of vegetable seeds. The total varieties displayed in the activity that the farmers have been waiting for are about 40 varieties, and 9 of them are new products resulting from development and research aligned with the needs of farmers.
