Event Women, Our Food Heroes in Indonesia
How often are we purposely thinking of the foods served to you? How is it produced? Who are actually our food heroes? Are they the ones in the production at upstream levels? Are they the ones that bring the harvests to the market that many food providers can process further and serve for the costumers? Or are they the ones that sell it on the clean market to make it accessible for more people that do not have wet markets in their neighborhood?
Today 14 December 2021, the Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta is inviting various actors involved in all the agrifood layers that make it possible for us to have foods on our tables. This event titled “Women, Our Food Heroes” consists of a talk show featuring inspiring actors and enthusiasts from agriculture and food sectors, followed by healthy food cooking show by a Chef. One thing that connects the advocates of the event is that they are all vigorous women. The team that organized the event is also dominated by energetic women. With this, we hope the event would bring more insights of professional contribution opportunities of Indonesian women these days, as well as activities, work plans and wishes that each panelist shared in the talk show aligned with the ventures for SDGs achievement by 2030.
“Women, Our Food Heroes” is one of our appreciations to all actors in the agriculture and food sector, men, youth, and in particular women; and it is organized in light of the Indonesian national mothers’ day that will be rejoiced on 22 December. The Agriculture team of the Netherlands Embassy in Jakarta would like herewith to feature a number of inspiring women in agriculture and food sectors that have been impacting the sector with their positive support and contributions in various sectors: farm activities and supply chain, horticulture seeds production, as well as food ingredients and food service providers, moderated by woman activist that is passionate about connecting multistakeholders to practice sustainable and responsible agrifood businesses.
Discussions stretched from why they chose to do what they are doing, what is so inspiring in their daily work and how to make it more interesting and impactful to the environment and the sectoral supporters up to the gender empowered office setting. Different sectoral background and experience of the panellists enhanced the conveyed messages, that like men, women are essential elements in the agriculture and food production not only for the family but also to their professional situations.
This event is a great closure for the year 2021 to highlight and campaign on the significance of the women and their roles in the society anywhere in the world. As the Netherlands and Indonesia share importance of agriculture and food production, both countries have this true power to rejoice that all men, women, and especially youth should join hands to maintain and develop sustainable agriculture within their own roles and capacity.
