The Netherlands SDGP Facility Partner from Indonesia Awarded Best Small Business by the UN
On 27 July 2021 the UN Announces 50 Best Small Business Winners Providing “Good Food for All”. Winners come from a total of 42 countries, including Indonesia. Alliet Green, a social enterprise of organic food products located in a small city of Bantul, Yogyakarta in Indonesia and our partner in the Netherlands SDGP Facility program is one of the respectable small businesses to have received this honour.
The best small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from across the world are identified for transforming food systems globally for a better tomorrow. They have showcased that not only the small businesses and their employees who are leading the charge for more sustainable, inclusive and resilient food systems, but also the ways in which they can be supported to scale up their trades sustainably. We are happy to note that half of the candidates are youth and nearly half are women, including Aliet Green.
Lastiana Yuliandari, founder of Aliet Green, has been a key partner of the Netherlands SDGP Partnership program since 2018 with the project of Sugar and Steam. This is a Sustainable Intensification of Agro-Forestry Production Systems which aims to improve the incomes, productivity and climate resilience of over 2,000 farmers (of which 60% are female) in Indonesia’s Kulon Progo District, through value chain integration and the introduction of suitable on-farm practices and technologies. The project also contributes to creating sustainable and ecologically sound food chains, better labour conditions and ethical working procedures throughout the value chain.
With this inspiring and impactful solutions in improving people’s access to healthy, sustainable food, our SDGP partner is selected by the UN from nearly 2,000 applications from 135 countries. Female leadership of Lastiana Yuliandari has marked various development to the social enterprise, which is a home for its 130 employees -80 are women, and a close partner to over 1,000 smallholder farmers (90% women and around 1% are farmers with a disability).
About SDGP Facility
SDG Facility is a development program funded by the Dutch government and aims to combine the expertise of government, business, and civil society organizations (CSOs) to find innovative solutions to complex challenges. The effective combination of expertise and partnerships can align interests and bridging differences so that major steps can be taken towards attaining the SDGs. Through a close collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) as the executor, SDGP aims to help achieve sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 2 (end hunger), SDG 8 (decent jobs and economic growth) and SDG 17 (partnerships for the goals) in developing countries.
In Indonesia SDGP Facility are working with two programs of the “Sugar and Steam - Sustainable Intensification of Agro-Forestry Production” and “Transforming the Cocoa Sector in Indonesia through Value Addition for Smallholders”
