The Concept of Climate Smart Agriculture in East Java, Indonesia

Jember, East Java, Indonesia set up a pilot area for the application of the concept of climate smart agriculture. This is done in anticipation of the effects of the global climate change.

Farmers and extension workers began to implement and develop Climate Smart Agriculture through the SIMURP project, which will be implemented at an early stage in Jember Regency, East Java.

Indonesia is expected to experience a long dry season, therefore extension workers and farmers must immediately accelerate planting so that in the rest of the rainy season farmers can still harvest, to maintain food availability and security, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the next four years as many as four Agricultural Counseling Centers (BPP) in Jember will be a pilot application of diversity intelligent agriculture (CSA).

The four BPPs in Jember selected were Ajung, Balung, Ambulu, and Gumukmas. All four have been prepared with prospective farmers and prospective CSA locations.

Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo also continues to encourage farmers and extension workers to continue productive activities.

"Farmers and extension workers are the foremost farmers in agriculture, however, they continue to implement the Covid-19 approval protocol so that farmers and extension workers are healthy and improved," he said.
