New Dutch technology for farmers to support national food security in Indonesia
Hybrid tropical vegetable seed producer East West Seed Indonesia (Ewindo) held a national EXPO in Purwakarta, West Java on 8 May, attended by our Deputy Head of Mission, Netherlands embassy Jakarta, Mr. Ferdinand Lahnstein and approximately 4,150 participants including farmers from all over Indonesia.
The National Expo aims to introduce the results of research and development of new leading varieties and cultivation technology to participants as well as a forum of education to farmers to apply the latest innovations and technologies in vegetable cultivation. The expo was held in an area of 6,500 square meters. Ewindo displays about 58 varieties of superior vegetables quality including 15 new varieties launched in 2018.
In addition to introducing new varieties, at this National Expo, Ewindo also provides education on innovation and the latest technology in vegetable cultivation. The technologies that was introduced included urban farming technology, Green-house, aeroponics and hydroponics.
The National Expo was attended by 120 young farmers who are still under 35 years old. Millennial farmers are getting the opportunity to discuss directly with experts in the field of cultivation and plant diseases from Ewindo. The young farmers gathered in the Young Arrow Farmer's container can exchange experiences with senior farmers from other regions to gain insight. It is expected that farmers who participate in this National Expo can transmit knowledge gained to other farmers in their respective regions. Thus, this event is expected to improve the welfare of farmers as well as support the achievement of government programs in terms of food sovereignty.
