Opportunities for animal health improvement and AMR reduction in the Indian Poultry Sector
Larive International conducted a study towards the Indian poultry sector on behalf of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency, the Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi and the Netherlands Business Support Office in Hyderabad. The report identifies opportunities to improve animal health and reduce anti-microbial resistance (AMR) in the poultry sector in India, specifically in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Haryana.
Poultry is one of the most important and advanced segments of the livestock sector in India. Over 5 million people are directly engaged in the sector. Currently, India is the third-largest egg producer in the world (after China and the USA). Domestic consumption of eggs and poultry meat is growing and will continue to grow in the coming years. This requires the sector to develop in a sustainable manner, reducing antibiotics usage and improving animal health conditions.
The report provides insight into the poultry value chain characteristics, main trends, issues and challenges, key stakeholders and the profitability of the Indian poultry sector (broiler and layer) concerning AMR reduction and animal health. By laying out a comprehensive roadmap, the report identifies opportunities for trade, investment, innovation, capacity building and knowledge transfer between India and the Netherlands.
