Egypt plans to establish a EUR 100 million Agri-Logistics hub in Alexandria

Egypt is a crossroads for agri-food trade between Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The Government of Egypt has the ambition to invest in unlocking this potential, as can be read in an article on Cairoscene.com. In 2022, the Agricultural team of the Netherlands Embassy in Egypt will again focus on opportunities in agri-logistics.

In cooperation with French produce, logistics company Rungis International, the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade will establish a specialized zone to manage the circulation of vegetables, fruits, meat and all other such commodities in Alexandria’s Borg El Arab. The zone will be 119 acres large, with investments of up to EUR 100 million. The cooperation will include procedures for digital transformation in Egypt’s internal trade system and streamline globalization across fields, linking merchants and outlets to each other more efficiently. The export of produce has long been a key factor in the health of Egypt's economy and, over the last few years, there has been an increase in demand from global markets for onions, sweet potatoes, grapes and oranges.
