Farm Frites opens a new 40 million dollar plant in Egypt
On 17 September Farm Frites launched a new potato processing plant worth USD 40 million, bringing it installed capacity to 150,000 tons. During the inauguration of Farm Frites’, Egypt’s minister of investment and international cooperation, Sahar Nasr, stated that The Netherlands has injected direct investments of $10 billion to Egypt through 648 Dutch companies operating in the most populous Arab nation. Dutch firms ranked second in terms of the volume of foreign direct investments (FDI) in Egypt.
Egypt has become a big regional player in potato production and exports. In 2017 it produced over 4.3 mln tons, of which it exported 670 thousand tons. The import of Dutch seed potatoes are essential to generate this production. With 41 thousand tons of seed potatoes exported Egypt is the second export destination outside the EU.
Farm Frites has become a leader in food industries because it provides quality products using the latest technologies. Thanks to these investments Dutch knowledge and expertise are applied in potato production and processing, with great opportunities to further improve sustainability.
