Myanmar's fisheries industry faces a grim future with a tremendous loss of jobs
Myanmar at present is facing zero seafood and marine products exports with no new order. The situation makes the fishery sector among the most vulnerable to the Covid-19 crisis.
An estimated 1 million jobs in the industry are now at risk. Before the crisis, Myanmar reportedly has 3.5 million workers in the fisheries industry.
The Myanmar Fisheries Federation MFF stressed the need for a recovery assistance such as to increase stimulus spending, to provide long-term discounted loans to the aquaculture businesses.
