27th Hortiflorexpo IPM Shanghai 2025 | Highlights from the Dutch Greenhouse Sector
The 27th Hortiflorexpo IPM Shanghai will take place from April 10-12 2025. The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in China will lead 32 Dutch greenhouse horticulture companies to participate as a national pavilion, presenting cutting-edge technology and innovative solutions.
Climate change is profoundly impacting agricultural production. Rising temperatures are altering crop growth cycles and planting zones, with extreme heat risking lower yields. Shifts in precipitation patterns intensify droughts and floods, increasing irrigation pressures. Frequent extreme weather events damage crops and infrastructure, while fostering pest outbreaks that elevate pesticide use and production costs. Soil degradation, salinization, and desertification reduce arable land quality, while climate stress may compromise crop quality and nutrition, escalating food security risks. Agriculture faces rising costs and uncertainty, demanding effective solutions.
High-tech glass greenhouses offer a promising path towards sustainable agriculture. With intelligent systems precisely controlling temperature, humidity, and light, greenhouses ensure stable production while reducing risks from extreme weather. Water-saving irrigation and enclosed environments enhance water efficiency, limit pests, reduce pesticide use, and improve product quality. IoT and big data technologies enable automated management, reducing costs and improving efficiency. In the future, integrating vertical farming and renewable energy will empower greenhouses to drive efficient, eco-friendly, and sustainable agriculture, better addressing climate change challenges. At the upcoming 27th Hortiflorexpo IPM, there will be 59 Dutch companies, with 32 joint forces as part of our Netherlands Pavilion showcase the latest advancements in greenhouse horticulture technologies and concepts.
