Increasing Demand for Imported Products
China has become the world's largest seafood market. Statistics show that the global annual seafood consumption is 144 million tons, and in China it's 65 million tons, which is five times higher than the second-largest European Union's 13 million tons (Source: Chemlinked).
Investment Group Takes Stake in Greenhouse Suppliers Prins Group and Stolze
Another major investment group gains ground in the horticultural industry. HAL Investments, the Dutch investment subsidiary of HAL Holding, has signed agreements to acquire 60% of the shares in Stolze and to acquire 24% of the shares in Prins Group. HAL Investments is working on a new portfolio of companies in the horticultural supply chain that can support each other on an individual project basis for large, complex and international projects that are increasingly initiated by investors (Source: floraldaily).
Record Planeloads of Live Hogs Flown Into China to Boost Herds
China is flying in record numbers of pigs to improve genetics and boost productivity while rapidly rebuilding the nation’s hog population after it was decimated by African swine fever.
China has allowed imports of live swine stock from Chile and Finland and resumed imports from the U.S. this year, according to customs data. The U.S. was China’s largest supplier in 2018 and 2017, the data showed (Source: Caixinglobal).
